Choosing the best personal injury lawyer for your car accident case is a very important decision to make following a crash. It can make the difference between no recovery, a small recovery or you receiving the proper compensation.
Retaining legal counsel sooner than later is always a wise move. Witnesses need to be located and contacted, and perhaps even an investigator should be sent to the scene. Maybe surveillance video needs to be preserved and maintained. The reality is, the more time that goes by following the crash, the more of a disadvantage you’ll be at in obtaining and preserving critical evidence.
Additionally, your insurance company will need to be notified and provided with information like the adverse driver’s insurance information and the precinct where the accident happened so that the Police Accident Report can be obtained. There are strict time deadlines for filing insurance and personal injury claims. If you miss a deadline, your case will be destroyed forever. A delay may prejudice your rights with respect to a recovery in the future. In total, six people were taken to area hospitals. The operator of the Accord, a 29-year-old woman, had been traveling eastbound on West 36th Street toward the intersection with 6th Avenue when she hit seven pedestrians near the crosswalk just before midnight, the police said.
The driver then fled toward the Midtown Tunnel and continued east through Queens on the Long Island Expressway, according to internal police records. She struck another vehicle before she was apprehended by officials, but that vehicle did not stay on the scene. Six of the people hit were taken to two local hospitals for a range of injuries, including head trauma and broken legs. One person was in critical condition, according to internal police records.
